It's a big change, and one that goes hand-in-hand with adjustments to how bonus experience is awarded for killing enemies higher than a player's current level. Past player level 82, monsters will always be five levels below the player's level. From then on, monster levels will always be a few levels below. Jumping over to World Tier IV, players will start to surpass the level of enemy monsters once they hit level 76. On World Tier III, players above level 56 will always be at least a few levels higher than enemies. In order to give players a "better sense of power progression," something that has been a complaint among players, enemies will now only scale up to a certain point. Some of the biggest changes in Diablo IV Season 1 are adjustments to bonus experience gained from killing higher-level monsters and how enemy level scaling works. Its effect can occur once every 30 seconds. There are additionally six new Unique items, including a new "Uber" Unique staff-the Ahavarion Spear of Lycander- that grants a random Shrine effect for 10-20 seconds after killing an Elite enemy.
